1970 Bertram 31 Sportfisher
The 31 Bertram Sport Fisherman is the quintessential American fishing machine. A genuine classic that gave way to the deep-vee design and to the Bertram company as well. Long considered one of the few smaller boats that could actually compete in blue water tournament events without being out of place. Her performance in head and following seas is nothing less than incredible. Her ease of maintenance quickly earned this design a loyal and dedicated following among serious anglers and charter operations. With over 500 change orders from her beginning in 1961 which we’re mainly cosmetic or hardware related little was done from the original design with respect to handling and sea keeping. The only significant design modification ever done was in widening the hull chines in the early days. Other than that you don’t fix perfect.

Designed as a Day Boat the 31 Bertram Sport Fisherman is built for fun and comfort at sea. She does offer a vee-berth forward and space for a plumbed marine head. The owner elected to remove the head when he first purchased the boat 12 years ago as she has been used for casual cruising primarily along the Intracoastal Waterway since arriving from her original home in Michigan. Fitted with lower helm as well as her fly bridge helm she is in incredible condition with her original Gelcoat in remarkable condition. Wardrobe locker is forward and the original cabin windows are next to perfect. A true candidate for the Antique Road Show.
There is a small refrigerator situated directly behind the lower helm chair along with a single basin sink and locker beneath. Directly across to port is a convertible dinette which will convert to a double berth.
Always used a cruiser her electronics are minimal but do include the following equipment:
• West Marine VHF Radio Waterproof Model
• Garmin 740s GPSmap Plotter
• Compass both stations
• B&G Network Quad (Speed, Temp, Depth and Distance)
• Benmar Autopilot
All original gelcoat surfaces in remarkable condition. All original Bertram specific hardware throughout the boat. Original “nautolex” deck surfaces. All rails original. After market additions are limited to a pair of Lee© Outriggers and a rocket launcher at the rear of the fly bridge. Folding bench style fly bridge seating. There is a ladder back style helm chair at the lower station. Morse shifter and throttle controls and Thompson Guages at the helm. Bennett Trim Tabs with controls at both stations. Benmar Autopilot
Original engines were replaced November 1, 2016 with a pair of freshwater cooled Mercruiser 502 CID gas motors. There is currently 651 original hours on the port motor and 649 original hours on the starboard motor. Performance is reported as follows with a cruising speed of 30-31 mph at 2800 rpms and a top speed wide open throttle of 50 mph at 4,100 rpms.
Equipped as a day boat cruiser she was never equipped with a generator. Electrical is 12V/110V via shore power service.
